Description
Painting by contemporary French-Japanese artist Lumi Mizutani. On a gold background, the artist painted a tree with Chinese ink and Japanese pigments.
This painting belongs to a series of figurative works in which the artist pays homage to Japan and its traditional landscapes, particularly those of Higashiyama-ku, the garden of Honpo-ji Temple, and Ueno in Tokyo. Through her paintings, the artist elevates these places by varying the seasons and moments in her different depictions. Plum and cherry blossoms, pine trees, weeping willows—she places great importance on nature and trees in her works. This series is distinguished by the use of India ink combined with color, as well as by the application of gold, copper, and silver leaf.
This artwork is sold framed. Dimensions of the framed artwork: 29.8 x 26.7cm.
Presentation
Painter and lithographer, Lumi Mizutani draws her inspiration from traditional Chinese and Japanese painting techniques. Her ink drawings and her paintings extend this tradition, and, through constant experimentation, carry her towards new horizons. For a few years now Lumi Mizutani's work has revolved around the duality between abstract and figurative, black and colour, the spontaneity of the gesture (the ink painting) and the patient composition work (the painting with pigment). Thanks to these antagonisms she finds the necessary and complementary resources to express herself.
“I felt the desire to introduce colors, especially Japanese color pigments, familiar to my childhood. Japanese painting thus entered my artistic expression and my life. While respecting the ancestral techniques and codes, I strive to create a personal and contemporary footprint that challenges the viewer by the emotion it arouses.“
