Description
This oil on canvas by Julien Cuny depicts a fragmented face, constructed from white and yellow lines against a dark, bluish background. The portrait is deconstructed and unstable, prioritizing the expression of thought over physical resemblance. The nervous, repetitive lines convey inner tension and a strong intellectual dimension. The cool palette evokes introspection and distance, while touches of yellow draw attention to the gaze and the mind. The work can be interpreted as a mental portrait, possibly inspired by Marcel Duchamp, a figure of deconstruction and the questioning of traditional portraiture. It thus interrogates the very identity and status of the image of the face in contemporary art.
A delay of 5 weeks because the oil is not yet dry.
Presentation
FROM CHAOS TO THE LIVING BEING
When I paint or draw, I start from chaos, I begin to paint spontaneously simple elements, forms, lines, surfaces arranged without preconceived ideas on the canvas. These elements intertwine, associate and give birth to complex forms. I reveal then by drawing on this bottom: figures, members, bodies, objects.
This creates diversified characters, which come from the chaos and inscribe their reality. It is a spontaneous, physical and spiritual act.
