Adeleke Ogundabede

Ogundabede is a Nigerian visual artist born and raised in Osogbo, a city deeply known for its vibrant artistic legacy and spiritual cultural traditions. Growing up within this environment of color, rhythm, and storytelling, his practice emerged from an early sensitivity to memory, atmosphere, and the emotional weight of everyday life.

Working primarily through painting, Ogundabede creates expressive figurative compositions that draw from impulse, dreams, personal recollection, and the landscapes of his surroundings. His subjects often appear as simplified silhouettes; figures suspended in moments of rest, intimacy, longing, or transition. Through this reduction of detail, he invites viewers to project their own emotions and histories into the work, transforming private experiences into shared human narratives.

Ogundabede's visual language is marked by bold color contrasts, fluid textures, and symbolic gestures that blur the line between reality and imagination. His paintings feel like fragments of remembered scenes; childhood comfort, internal struggle, hope, and spiritual release; captured in forms that are both playful and profound.

Rooted in Osogbo yet open to universal resonance, Ogundabede continues to build a body of work that explores the subconscious, the tenderness of memory, and the quiet power of the environments that shape us.
