Description
This artwork vividly captures a serene harbor scene, using bold, geometric shapes and a harmonious palette of earthy tones contrasted with cool blues. The painter employs a unique perspective, viewing the scene from above, offering an expansive view of the dock and moored boats. The water, rendered in a deep navy with textured brushwork, reflects the tranquility of the setting. Buildings, with their cubist influence, delineate the background, creating a striking contrast with the fluidity of the sea. Light plays a crucial role, with clever shadowing and highlights adding depth and dimensionality. The composition is meticulously balanced, each element thoughtfully placed to guide the viewer's eye across the canvas. This work is a masterful blend of abstraction and realism, capturing the essence of a quaint coastal town with an innovative approach that is both refreshing and captivating.
Presentation
Michael Hill an artist from Plymouth has always had a love of drawing and a fascination for the painted image as far back as he can remember. After leaving school he studied art and graphic design, but quickly became aware that illustration and fine arts were the subjects he wanted to pursue. Shortly after leaving college he worked for some years as a freelance illustrator before taking up painting full time.
My paintings have become more abstract of late but it is important to me to convey a strong sense of place together with an air of mystery. Coming from fragments of memory, the painting surface is built up through layers of colour, sometimes leaving previous areas of paint exposed, maybe to indicate the history of the work.
