Artwork location: Canada
This artwork captures a serene moment in nature, dominated by an expansive sky transitioning from deep azure to muted grays, suggesting an impending change in weather. To the right, a starkly silhouetted tree stretches its intricate branches across the canvas, creating a striking contrast against the luminous backdrop. The delicate interplay of light and shadow on the branches adds depth and texture, inviting viewers to contemplate the tranquility and transience of natural beauty. The artist's meticulous attention to detail is evident in the subtle gradations of color and the lifelike portrayal of the tree, evoking a sense of realism and calmness. The composition masterfully balances the vast openness of the sky with the intricate complexity of the foreground, making this an evocative celebration of the harmony between earth and sky.

What has been persistent in all my work, is my endeavour to impart a sense of presence and personification/embodiment to my depictions of various kinds of botanical growth (trees, vines, flowers). In some paintings, this took the form of symmetrical trees. In other paintings, it manifested as botanical configurations resembling human heads and faces. In those paintings, I used the conventions of portraiture as a way to underscore what I feel are the ineffable but singular qualities embodied in every living thing.
