Description
In Spring Is Coming, a figure walks through a snowy forest with a horse, looking at the bare trees and imagining them full of life again. The figure and the horse depend on each other: the horse provides warmth and strength, while the figure guides them forward. Together, they are trying to reach a place of comfort. Unlike the trees, which must stay and wait for spring, the figure chooses to move on. The journey becomes a search for warmth and belonging, with the horse possibly representing a part of himself that helps him get through difficult times.
Presentation
Born in 2000 in Beirut and living between Beirut and Florence, Chammaa uses painting to explore his identity and origins. His figurative work, often set in minimalist landscapes, addresses themes of identity, queer intimacy, solitude, and time.
Raised in a strict religious environment against a backdrop of persistent instability in Lebanon, he developed a keen sense of difference and independence. Recurring elements such as male bodies, horses, mountains, and water constitute symbolic and emotional spaces conducive to reflection. Through layering colors and textures, he explores the tension between vulnerability and strength, allowing them to coexist within the same space.
