Description
This vibrant artwork features a mesmerizing coastal scene, skillfully blending impressionistic and abstract styles. The canvas bursts with dynamic colors, capturing the essence of a sunlit Mediterranean landscape. Bold strokes of deep blues and purples dominate the foreground, hinting at a serene sea that contrasts beautifully with the warm, sunlit cliffs in the background. These cliffs are painted with a palette of oranges, yellows, and pinks, conveying the radiant sunlight that bathes the quaint, clustered buildings atop. The interplay of light and shadow adds depth, while swift, expressive brushstrokes evoke movement and vitality. This masterpiece uniquely balances chaos and harmony, encouraging viewers to explore the intricate details and vivid contrasts that make this artwork both captivating and profound.
Presentation
Born in Turin, Italy in 1963, Alex Bertaina's creative expression began in early childhood where his passion for drawing and bold colours originated. Though Alex considers art to be his primary tool for communicating with the world, it wasn't until an injury in his mid-20's left him homebound, that he began to focus on his dream of becoming an artist.
As a self-taught painter, Alex never attended art school. However, in 1988 he was mentored under the guidance of Master, Marco lattes. From here he began to refine his technical skills and knowledge. Bertaina has since gone on to exhibit across Europe and beyond. In 2014 his work saw him awarded the prestigious title of Taipei's 'Master of the Year' and in 2016, Ukrainian composer Nik Savinich dedicated a session of his piano recordings to Alex, simply titled 'Bertaina'.
Currently living and working in Cuneo, Northwest Italy, Alex says “Painting is for me this dreamed landscape [consisting of] vertical or horizontal cuts… superimposing interplays, dismantled and dense images that look like rainbow geometries full of light and colour, [reflecting] its vibrancy and brilliance".
