With L'échange, the artist addresses the relationship between individuals more directly, placing at the center not only the presence or the trace, but the link itself.
The composition adopts a now familiar form: a horizontal, almost architectural structure filled with repetitive motifs evoking imprints or fragments of faces. This compact mass can be perceived as a collective body, a shared space where individualities mingle without entirely disappearing. Each motif appears unique, yet participates in a larger whole, suggesting that exchange arises precisely from this coexistence of singularities.
On the left, two small vertical figures face each other. Unlike other works where the figures were isolated or distant, here they are placed side by side, in a posture that clearly evokes an encounter. Their formal simplicity—almost reduced to signs—reinforces the idea that what matters is not precise identity, but the act of being in relationship.
Between these figures and the central mass, there is no clear separation. On the contrary, everything seems connected by a continuity of matter and texture. The exchange is therefore not merely a dialogue between two individuals, but a broader phenomenon: it circulates, it permeates, it transforms the entire landscape.
The contrast between the solid, grounded ochre base and the more open, grey upper section accentuates this dynamic. There is a transition between two states: from density to space, from the collective to detachment, from matter to circulation.
