Provençal Landscape with Houses and Cherry Trees, Circa 1960

Jean Perret

Provençal landscape in oil on panel by the French artist Jean Perret. Signed lower left. This captivating work presents a serene rural landscape beneath a vast, dynamic sky filled with swirling clouds. Dominated by a rustic, two-story farmhouse on the left, the scene evokes a sense of tranquility and timelessness. The building, with its simple geometry and earthy tones, stands amidst a mosaic of fields displaying the first signs of spring. A row of soft pink cherry trees enhances the vibrant energy of the scene, juxtaposing the solid structure with ephemeral beauty. The rolling hills in the background suggest depth and invite the viewer to explore further. The artist's use of bold, expressive brushstrokes captures the movement of the clouds and the gentle sway of the foliage, adding texture and dimension to the canvas. This piece uniquely blends Impressionist and Realist elements, creating a harmonious balance between the present moment and the eternal landscape.
