Maka Kvartskhava

Maka Kvartskhava is a Georgian artist born in 1981 who lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia. For Maka, art comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable, It empties and fills, makes constant movement and free breathing. Driven by a relentless pursuit of expression, she creates evocative works that bridge the gap between tangible reality and the subconscious. Her practice is centered on the medium of oil painting, utilizing its rich textures and depth to explore the nuances of the human experience. Through a lens of abstract art, the artist translates complex emotions into visual narratives that invite viewers to find their own meaning within the canvas. Artist's inspiration is drawn from the interplay of light and shadow, in some of the works she looks into the way in which the imaginary world is constructed. Each piece is a dialogue between intention and spontaneity, resulting in a bold, layered aesthetic that challenges the viewer's perception. Her paintings are colorful, wild, and warm, encourage the viewer to discover both the overall picture and fine details, evoking strong, positive, and at the same time thoughtful emotions. Sometimes they reflect instants of longing and loneliness. Mostly interested in her own imagination and subconscious reflections, from where paintings elegantly weave together abstract and realist elements through an intuitive, chance-driven process, blending sacred and secular inspirations. Constantly searching for unity between lines and color, she composes works that balance form and space with both vibrancy and harmony. Maka's works eloquently capture raw emotions, leading observers to explore and connect with their feelings through her art.
