La Paix chez les Bêtes : Le Cheval, 2016

Sandrine Rondard

In Peace Among the Beasts: The Horse, Sandrine Rondard creates a suspended, dreamlike landscape where juvenile figures move through a forest bathed in shifting, atmospheric light. "Witches children", the two pink-clad silhouettes appear both present and elusive, their forms partially dissolving into the surrounding environment. Their anonymity and quiet movement evoke the fragile, transitional space between reality and imagination.

The horse, positioned at the edge of the composition, emerges as a silent witness. Its presence introduces a symbolic dimension, suggesting a peaceful coexistence between human and animal realms. The scene unfolds like a contemporary fairy tale, where narrative remains open and suspended, inviting projection rather than resolution.

Rondard's painterly language oscillates between figuration and abstraction. Fluid brushwork, layered transparencies, and subtle chromatic shifts dissolve the solidity of forms, allowing light and movement to structure the composition. The reflective path, fading contours, and atmospheric depth evoke a fleeting moment—an image caught between memory, perception, and transformation.

Drawing from cinematic language and art historical references, Rondard constructs visual spaces where mystery persists. In Peace Among the Beasts: The Horse, she creates an ambiguous territory where childhood, nature, and imagination converge, and where the image slowly unfolds toward abstraction.
