How to capture the essence of the journey, not only physical but also spiritual, through a simplified and stylized form?
The pilgrim, as an archetypal figure, represents here more than just a simple traveler;
It is a symbol of inner quest, of personal transformation.
For this work, Aurore drew inspiration from constructivism, which has always fascinated me with its ability to capture dynamism and strength through strict geometric forms. The use of interlocking triangles and polygons evokes the idea of an almost mechanized human being who, paradoxically, is searching for something profoundly spiritual.
The choice of colours and patterns suggests the pilgrim's path, a road that is not straight, but full of contrasts and changes.
This painting is also influenced by modernist architecture, particularly the works of Le Corbusier. The simple yet powerful forms she used are a way of representing man as a structure in motion, an entity that, while robust, is always under construction, in search of its own equilibrium.
The background divided into blue and orange evokes the constant dialogue between Earth and Heaven, the material and the spiritual, a reference to religious iconography, where these colors are often used to represent the earthly world and the afterlife.
"The Pilgrim" is therefore more than just a figure on the move. It is a metaphor for the inner journey, where each form, each color, contributes to creating a narrative of transformation.
The pilgrim is both anchored in the material world, symbolized by angular forms and regular patterns, and aspiring to something greater, more spiritual. The movement suggested by the figure's inclined posture reminds us that this journey is in perpetual progression, a precarious but necessary balance between body and mind, between the known and the unknown.
It is this duality, this endless quest, that the artist wanted to convey.
Presentation
At first glance, Aurore Michel Grégoire's canvases evoke an almost Cartesian spirit: the composition is pure, geometric and the flat tints are executed to perfection. You get the impression that nothing escapes you, and above all, that nothing escapes her.
But it's a very different story. Each of Aurore's works conceals a dreamy thought, sometimes a little confused, linked to mysticism or even automatic gesture.
The themes addressed are vast and profound. The artist often questions our contemporary society with humor and finesse. She likes to reinterpret the great classics of Art History and transpose them to our own times.
Painting also allows her to express herself when words cannot. Indeed, when she tackles other themes, ask her why this color or that character, her lips will remain sealed if the inspiration comes straight from her secret garden.
Aurore likes to combine her contemporary style with a frame of antique gilding and scrolls. The contrast seems perfectly suited to the paradox of her works, which oscillate between rigor and sensitivity. The result is a daring blend of elegance.
Audacity, elegance... terms that fit both the works and the artist. With a semblance of ease, confidence and conviction, this self-taught Marseillaise decided to follow her instinct and passion in 2017. Since then, there's been no stopping her. She has broken down doors and climbed the arduous ladder of the artist's life with an ease and speed true to the charming hint of casualness that characterizes her. A girl power who dares to step out of the box and go beyond her limits.
