In this evocative body of work, Jessica Snow departs from her signature hard-edged geometry to embrace a fluid, process-driven communion with the natural world. Painted en plein mer during her residencies in Greece, each canvas is physically immersed in the Aegean Sea at dawn, allowing saltwater, sand, and coastal light to act as active co-mediums. The resulting compositions—defined by translucent acrylic washes, undulating pointillist trails, and kinetic, calligraphic marks—translate the visceral energy of the tides and marine life into a vivid tapestry of biomorphic abstraction. By surrendering structural control to the elements, Snow beautifully captures a shimmering, meditative frequency where nature is not merely the subject, but an active co-creator.
Presentation
Her paintings and drawings distinguish themselves by their geometrical, playful and colored forms.
Jessica graduated from the Art Studio of University of California in 1988, and obtained a Master of Fine Arts at Mills College in Oakland in 1996. Jessica Snow also studied at La Sorbonne in Paris and at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
Today, Jessica Snow teaches herself painting, drawing, and history of art at the University of San Francisco.
As a multi-disciplinary artist, Jessica Snow uses different mediums: She works on paper as much as on walls, with acrylic or oil painting, on canvas or linen. Each of her artworks is the result of a long preparatory study, with a pencil or a thin pen.
Her work is influenced by artists as Sophie Taueber-Arp, Sol Lewitt, Ellsworth Kelly, or even Henri Matisse, which has always been her favorite artist.
Jessica Snow always try to create artworks that seem instinctive and realized without efforts, whereas her preparatory studies show all the opposite.
