Description
This painting belongs to my ongoing series "Fragmentation et Totalité", an exploration of how Western rationalism and its analytical approach have progressively divided reality into isolated, seemingly irreconcilable fragments.
The oversized Tetris piece serves as a recurring symbol throughout the series. By enlarging this familiar element beyond its natural scale, I emphasize the disproportionate impact of fragmentation on our perception of the world. What was once conceived as a system of interconnected relationships becomes reduced to detached pieces that no longer fit together.
Another recurring motif in the series is the unbaited fishhook, representing the search for depth and meaning while relying on inadequate or incomplete tools. It reflects the paradox of pursuing wholeness through methods that often reinforce separation rather than connection.
Rather than proposing definitive answers, the work invites the viewer to contemplate the tension between analysis and unity, absence and presence, fragmentation and totality. Through a restrained visual language and subtle symbolism, the painting creates a contemplative space where these opposing forces coexist.
Presentation
Ezequiel Martínez Llaser is an artist with an extensive international career. His works are included in various private collections across Europe. Born in Argentina in 1981, he lives and works between Paris and Barcelona.
He studied art and philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires and Paris VIII, and has completed several workshops and artist residencies with prominent figures in today's contemporary art scene. Coming from a family of photographers, he grew increasingly drawn to the visual arts as a medium to express his philosophical inquiries.
His work—primarily large-scale surrealist oil paintings—is a deconstruction of reality and the dominant values of modern society. His latest series, “Fragmentation et Totalité," questions Western rationalism through vitalist philosophical concepts (Nietzsche and Bergson), drawing influence from painters such as Dalí and Goya.
He has held major exhibitions in Buenos Aires, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, and Paris. In 2019, he participated in the Florence Biennale. Since 2022, his work has been on display at the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, and in recent years, his pieces have been selected for exhibitions throughout Europe.
