Description
Due to its 4 cm depth, this work functions as a "dual object." It can be displayed as a sculpture, standing independently on a shelf or pedestal, or as a painting, mounted on a wall.
This contemporary piece explores the dialogue between the perception of invulnerability and our inherent fragility. Meticulously hand-gilded in gold leaf—a material traditionally associated with power, luxury, and permanence—the surface presents a façade of strength … that is, in reality, incredibly delicate and sensitive to the touch. The center features the word "FRAGIL" in a vibrant hot pink, designed to mimic the aesthetics of the specialized packing tape used by galleries and museums to protect and label artworks during transit.
This juxtaposition subverts the authority of the gold, acting as a visual warning: even what appears most solid and precious requires the utmost care.
Presentation
Ezequiel Martínez Llaser is an artist with an extensive international career. His works are included in various private collections across Europe. Born in Argentina in 1981, he lives and works between Paris and Barcelona.
He studied art and philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires and Paris VIII, and has completed several workshops and artist residencies with prominent figures in today's contemporary art scene. Coming from a family of photographers, he grew increasingly drawn to the visual arts as a medium to express his philosophical inquiries.
His work—primarily large-scale surrealist oil paintings—is a deconstruction of reality and the dominant values of modern society. His latest series, “Fragmentation et Totalité," questions Western rationalism through vitalist philosophical concepts (Nietzsche and Bergson), drawing influence from painters such as Dalí and Goya.
He has held major exhibitions in Buenos Aires, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, and Paris. In 2019, he participated in the Florence Biennale. Since 2022, his work has been on display at the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, and in recent years, his pieces have been selected for exhibitions throughout Europe.
