Description
JPHT Gallery Exclusivity
This work by Mat Elbé is offered exclusively by the JPHT Gallery. Created in 2015 for the occasion of a collective exhibition dedicated to cinema at the Knafo gallery in Paris, it illustrates the dialogue between the world of the seventh art and the aesthetic of contemporary street art. Structured by film strips, the composition juxtaposes fragments of images that evoke movement, memory, and cinematic narration. The black and white contrast, enhanced by touches of color, accentuates the graphic force of the whole. Created by stencil, aerosol, and acrylic, this creation testifies to the artist's technical mastery and his interest in icons of popular culture. A female figure breaks free from the frame to fully invest the pictorial space, blurring the boundaries between photography, cinema, and painting.
Presentation
He started studying stencil techniques in 2013, under the influence of his friends Tarek and Yarps. Together they used the streets of Paris as support, on which they pasted different motifs, including colored madonnas. Modernity, urbanity and fantasy define Mat Elbe's work perfectly.
The artist uses canvases as a support for his stencils as well.
In 2014, he exhibited his creations for the first time with Partitions Urbaines. Since then, his work has been present in numerous galleries in France and abroad.
