Description

Technique: Acrylic and textured mixed media technique - Mediterralis® style + (controlled pour acrylic pouring) knife/brush.

This work is created according to the Mediterralis® directed pouring technique, mixing acrylic and different media to create the depth and movement of the water.

The pontoon and boats are shaped and worked in wood, then integrated into the composition.

The rocks and reliefs of the shore are made with textured plaster, bringing matter and dimension to the whole.

Each element is thought of to reinforce the airy and immersive effect specific to the Mediterralis® collection.

In a peaceful cove by the Mediterranean, an old wooden pontoon slowly advances in turquoise water with changing depths. Two boats rest there, motionless, as if suspended in the silence of a summer late afternoon.

Viewed from above, the scene becomes almost timeless.
The sea transforms into living matter, the beach draws a gentle curve, the rock and vegetation frame the moment.

An invitation to travel.
A fragment of the Mediterranean captured between light, texture, and memory.

Presentation

JIEL is a French painter whose artistic career began in the late 1990s.

Self-taught, he first trained by copying the great masters, notably Van Gogh, Cézanne, Gauguin, Renoir, Monet, De Lempicka, Corot, or De La Tour. In 1999, he created one of the first French websites dedicated to the reproduction of classical works, allowing him very early on to work for a French and international clientele.

Starting in 2005, JIEL gradually abandoned copying to dedicate himself entirely to his own creations and develop a immediately recognizable pictorial universe.

The Mediterranean becomes one of his main sources of inspiration: villages of the South, ports, coves, cabanas, umbrella pines, and scenes bathed in light make up a painting that is resolutely contemporary, warm, and colorful.

Working mainly with acrylic brushwork, JIEL builds his works with broad strokes and fields of color, highlighted by irregular dark lines. Material, light, and the simplification of forms occupy an essential place in his work.

This research into material and Mediterranean landscapes leads him to create MEDITERRALIS®, a personal collection in which reliefs, mineral textures, and directed acrylic drips reinterpret the landscapes and shores of the Mediterranean in a resolutely contemporary writing.

For more than twenty years, his works have joined many private collections in France and abroad.

His work is listed in the Guid'Arts Drouot dictionary in 2015, listed by Akoun since 2017 and referenced on Artprice.

JIEL lives and works in Seillans, in the Var, where his studio is open to the public.
