Description
The painting presents a scene of great serenity that unfolds in a stripped-down space. Three figures are arranged around a mirror placed on the floor.
The reflection creates a perfect symmetry. It fragments the plane and doubles the silhouettes.
The oil treatment brings a subtle depth. The painter favors soft color harmonies.
The immaculate white of the background emphasizes the graphic design of the composition.
Each pose is studied. The figurative approach captures a suspended moment of daily life.
A dialogue is established between reality and its image. The light glides over the smooth surfaces and the folds of the clothes.
The gaze is guided by the geometric lines of the floor.
The whole invites contemplation. The balance of forms reinforces the feeling of calm.
The precision of the line defines the contours of the characters and the sharpness of the reflection.
Presentation
Serge Nicolas-Castel is a painter from Vannes (Morbihan) whose work is based on simple compositions that project moments of everyday life around characters and seascapes.
Genre scenes are inspired by our immediate surroundings. Human, urban, plant, or maritime nature provides daily sources of inspiration, the graphic dimension of which does not always have time to be perceived.
Each work is a construction inspired by a perceived scene; the compositional work aims for emotion, questioning, reflection, and appeasement, but everyone can imagine whatever they want.
Oil painting, a slow medium, is favored for its depth, fluidity, and effects. A constant search for harmonies of form and color occupies his work, allowing him to offer original or unusual works through his figurative style.
