Description
In this work, two candleholders cease to be objects created simply to hold candles. They sit beside one another in almost meditative poses — calm, focused, immersed in their own silence. Their forms are different, yet the small flames above them create a sense of a shared rhythm.
A candle usually exists for us: it lights a room, accompanies a dinner, a conversation, a solitary evening, or a moment of remembrance. Here, however, there is no human presence. The objects remain on their own, and the light seems to belong no longer to us, but to them.
Within the context of the series The Lives We Leave in Things, this scene continues the exploration of the hidden lives of everyday objects. We encounter them at a moment when they ask nothing of us and perform no practical function. They simply remain beside one another — each holding its own small flame.
The work speaks about a presence that does not require action, and about a quiet light that can continue to exist even when no one is there to see it.
