Where the Land Open, 2026

Kateryna Kolesnykova

An open landscape unfolds through gentle hills, scattered vegetation, and broad stretches of grassland beneath a sky filled with soft, pale clouds. Warm yellows, ochres, and oranges in the foreground gradually give way to muted greens, purples, and blues, creating a sense of depth and the quiet openness of the countryside.
Rather than focusing on a single landmark, the painting explores the diversity of colours, textures, and forms that shape a seemingly simple landscape. Expressive brushstrokes suggest the movement of grasses, subtle changes in vegetation, and the natural rhythm of the terrain.
Created as part of the Notes on the Landscape series, inspired by scientific expeditions and field observations, the work reflects the artist's interest in the relationship between close observation and personal perception. The landscape is presented not as a precise geographical record, but as an impression of a place experienced through time, movement, and attention.
The painting invites the viewer to discover the richness of an open landscape - a place where even the smallest variations in colour and form become part of its distinctive character.
