Description
This composition is part of the vanity tradition. A central skeleton stretches, recalling classical anatomical patterns. It seems trapped in a strict geometric frame.
The background plays on marked chromatic contrasts. Coppery and orange tones oppose traces of verdigris. This palette evokes the oxidation of metals and the erosion of time.
Industrial tools float around the human figure. They symbolize the weight of labor and the fragility of physical condition. The whole creates a tension between technical rigor and organic decomposition.
The artist uses oil and mixed techniques to obtain these grainy textures. The material seems eaten away, almost corrosive, reinforcing the statement on finitude.
The painting is presented in a warm wooden frame which contrasts with the coldness of the subject. This piece dates from 208.
