Description
With this work, Achao continues his exploration of the motif, bringing forth a constellation of stylised figures that favours the circulation of forms over narrative. Set within a vast oval field, the silhouettes evolve within a continuous space, without perspective or hierarchy, inviting the eye into a gradual process of contemplation.
The yellow background, almost fluorescent in its intensity, acts as a source of light from which the pink and orange forms seem to emerge. Reduced to a few essential lines, the figures relinquish any sense of individuality to become universal signs. This formal economy evokes certain aspects of Henri Matisse's investigations into the simplification of contour, while the biomorphic treatment occasionally recalls Jean Arp and the graphic dimension of Paul Klee. Matisse's sustained search for the essential relationship between line, colour and form provides a particularly relevant resonance here.
Each motif is animated by a network of triangular facets and hatching that creates a subtle inner vibration, while traces of the painterly gesture preserve the sensuous presence of the paint. Devoid of a narrative centre, the composition is organised through rhythms, breaths and intervals, giving the forms the impression of floating within a continuous movement.
This painting confirms Achao's artistic approach: to construct a contemplative space in which the repetition of the motif, the circulation of signs and apparent simplicity gradually reveal, through sustained looking, a richly articulated visual structure.
Presentation
Achao is a French artist born in 1966 who lives and works in Chamalières, France.
Serenity and Joy: The Ephemeral in Motion by Achao
The artistic universe of Achao, a French artist, invites you to a deep contemplation and serenity. His works stand out through a juxtaposition of transparent motifs that create blur effects, encouraging a certain introspection. Through his creations, Achao captures the essence of a world in perpetual motion while offering both a visual and spiritual experience. His art aims to convey a sense of joy, inner peace, and harmony. At the heart of Achao's painting lie three categories of motifs. The first is inspired by Henri Matisse's cut-out papers, where color and form intertwine to create a graceful dance. The second category pays homage to the bas-reliefs of the Dhamek Stupa in Sarnath, an iconic Buddhist site in northern India. Here, the profusion of organic motifs infuses a deep spirituality. Finally, Achao explores the enchanting entanglement of bubbles, transforming them into an infinite network of lines that enhances the immersive quality of his large-format paintings. Color plays a central role in Achao's works. Each color palette is meticulously crafted to resonate with the viewer's emotions, creating an atmosphere that encourages tranquility and joy. The bold use of color not only captivates the eye but also evokes a sense of harmony and balance. The palette ranges from serene pastels to more vibrant tones.
Achao regularly exhibits in France, Belgium, and Italy, fostering an intimate dialogue with the spaces and audiences. His paintings have traveled to iconic venues such as the Institut français Centre Saint-Louis in Rome and the Angelica Gallery. A monographic exhibition was dedicated to him in the rotunda of the Saint-Paul campus of the Catholic University of Lyon (UCLy). He has also exhibited at the Halles Saint-Géry in the center of Brussels. Achao's paintings are presented on unstretched canvas. A suspension system is integrated into the upper part of the canvas. This metal system, slid into a sleeve, conceals the nails or screws used for hanging. You may also choose to frame the painting or mount it on a stretcher. The artwork is shipped in a very sturdy tube, ensuring its protection. For larger-scale projects, Achao is available for on-site collaborations, adapting his artistic vision directly to your space. This personalized approach fosters a deeper connection between the artwork and its environment.
