Description
An acrylic canvas made in 2019 where abstraction dialogues with figuration. The gaze immerses itself in a chromatic field dominated by shades of deep blue and green. Multiple azure touches repeat in rhythm across the entire surface.
The artist structures the composition through a network of yellow and golden lines. These fine and nervous strokes draw organic contours. They evoke the fragility of stems and the lightness of petals.
The work on the material brings a tactile dimension to the whole. The superimpositions of layers create a subtle relief. The light catches the light pigments to vitalize the depth of the dark background.
The balance between the suggested geometric shapes and the spontaneous gesture guides the reading. The repetition of motifs creates a sensation of natural movement. The whole unfolds like a stylized plant fabric.
Presentation
Somsak Chaituch, born in 1967 in the hills of northern Thailand, is a contemporary painter whose work is built between two cultures. Raised in the heart of an intensely colorful tropical nature, he retains from his childhood the rhythms of the landscapes, the vegetation, the rice fields, and Thai culture. At 27, he joins the Netherlands to study art: after a course at the Utrecht Academy of Arts, he continues his training at the Dutch Art Institute and obtains a Master of Fine Arts in 2003. His path is quickly distinguished by several awards and the support of the Amsterdam Foundation for Visual Arts.
