Description
It is particularly for the exhibition at the Saint-Pierre Space of the Minimes that Hans Mendler conceived the Zodiac series. Far from offering an exhaustive or merely illustrative reading, the artist presents seven signs, chosen as fragments of a larger whole, those that resonated most deeply with him. Presented individually or together, these works unfold a formal and chromatic diversity that evokes the infinite mystery of the Universe to which we aspire to belong. At times discreet, almost translucent, at times powerful and dynamic, the colors, forms, and inscriptions enter into dialogue with each zodiac figure, without ever exhausting its symbolic dimension.
In this series, the zodiac is no longer a simple motif; it becomes a presence. The signs transform into organic forms, sometimes vegetal, sometimes totemic. One believes to recognize a Cancer, a Lion or a Libra, before these silhouettes dissolve into a broader movement, as if returning to their cosmic origin. In front of the large canvases, the gaze perceives the pulse of an archaic time, drawing from geology, the forces of nature, and the first graphic gestures of humanity.
Presentation
Hans Mendler, German painter and sculptor, was born in 1950 in Neresheim near Stuttgart. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. His works can be found in public spaces (Leipzig, Böblingen, etc.), in municipal collections and with many private art lovers. Participating in many exhibitions, national and international (Singapore, Moscow, Budapest, Majorca, California, Vienna...). He lives and works in Leonberg/Germany and in a village on the Danube in Dunaszekcsö/Hungary.
From the beginning, a wide artistic spectrum determined his work in many techniques and different materials. A complex subject expresses itself spontaneously, impulsively and emotionally.
Hans Mendler offers a concrete perception of the creative process of the work of art. The materials and shapes here are direct echoes of the artist's studio. His work is thus interpreted as a palette with carnal and lively nuances. Each piece seems to be formed before our eyes to become the witness of an in-process approach. He thus raises a great diversity of faces and bodies with great expressive freedom.
