Description
A dense exploration of texture and mood. This oil painting captures a moment of fluid transformation. Dark tones dominate the composition. They create a heavy, atmospheric depth. Thicked layers of paint build a rugged terrain of color. Grey and black hues collide with surprising flashes of blue and white. The surface feels visceral. It evokes the turbulent energy of a churning sea.
The artist draws from a deep academic background in Georgia. He blends symbolic abstraction with a refined technical mastery. Here, nature is stripped of its literal form. It becomes a metaphor for inner change. The brushwork is rhythmic and impulsive. It pushes the boundaries between figurative references and pure abstraction. Each stroke contributes to a sense of raw motion. The composition avoids a traditional horizon line. This choice pulls the viewer directly into the swirling vortex of the scene. Light emerges sporadically from the gloom. These highlights suggest a fleeting glimmer of hope or a distant shore. The resulting artwork is a powerful study of perception and elemental force. It resides in the tension between chaos and structure. A singular vision of natural power rendered in oil.
Presentation
Gia Khutsishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 18, 1966, into a family of artists. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. Since 1990, Khutsishvili has been engaged in academic and pedagogical activities at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, where he has taught and contributed to the institution's educational programs. He has also taught painting and delivered lectures at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Over the course of more than three decades, Khutsishvili has developed a sustained artistic practice alongside his academic, research, and cultural activities. He has participated in and contributed to numerous exhibition projects and cultural events and has been involved in the preparation of publications, books, and art albums. His professional activities also include research and translation. Khutsishvili occupies a distinctive position within the generation of Georgian artists that emerged in the 1990s. His practice is characterized by a sustained engagement with abstraction, symbolism, and metaphor, with mythological themes and imagery constituting an important component of his artistic vocabulary. Through these elements, his work explores questions of perception, interpretation, and the relationship between figurative references and abstract forms. Metaphor plays a fundamental role in Khutsishvili's artistic approach, functioning as a structural principle through which images, symbols, and meanings are brought into dialogue. His works reflect a consistent interest in developing an individual visual language grounded in abstraction while remaining connected to cultural, historical, and mythological references. Khutsishvili's works are held in museum collections and private collections in Georgia and internationally.
