Description
A quiet intensity defines this still life. Green pea pods spill from a patterned porcelain bowl. The arrangement feels spontaneous yet carefully balanced. The artist employs a moody, dark background to push the subjects forward. This contrast enhances the luminosity of the white ceramic.
The brushwork is precise and observant. It captures the organic textures of the vegetable skins. Subtle highlights suggest a soft, directional light source. This creates a tangible sense of volume and weight. The blue floral motifs on the vessel add a touch of structured elegance to the rustic composition.
The palette remains restrained. Deep greens meet cool whites and midnight shadows. There is a timeless quality to the arrangement. It elevates a simple kitchen scene into a study of form and light. The composition leads the eye from the scattered pods on the surface toward the rim of the bowl. Every curve and fold is rendered with quiet expertise. The artwork concludes with a reflection of the porcelain on the dark, polished table.
Presentation
Michal Mozes (b. 1980) is an Israeli painter living and working in Tel Aviv. She studied drawing and painting under Shlomi Hagai at the Israel Arts and Science Academy in Jerusalem (1995–1998) and holds a B.Des in Fashion Design from Shenkar College.
Rooted in close observation of everyday life, her paintings transform domestic objects, flowers, family photographs, and intimate scenes into explorations of color, light, memory, and personal history. In recent years, in response to a period of collective grief, flowers and mourning wreaths have become recurring motifs in her work. These subjects also connect to her childhood in a moshav, where she grew up in a family of flower growers.
Through seemingly ordinary subjects, Mozes creates quietly charged narratives in which intimacy, memory, and collective experience intersect.
