Kohlrabi & Exhalation, 2024

Michal Mozes

A stark contrast defines this composition. A pale kohlrabi rests upon a dark volume. The vegetable emerges from the shadows with sculptural intensity. Its organic curves evoke an alien anatomy. Pale greens and creamy whites glow against a void of deep black. This light creates a dramatic tension reminiscent of chiaroscuro traditions.
The vegetable sits atop a book titled Exhalation. This pairing suggests a dialogue between nature and intellect. The tactile surface of the skin contrasts with the rigid edges of the cover. Every vein and ridge of the plant is rendered with clinical precision. The artist captures the fleeting state of organic matter. The void surrounding the subject strips away all context. It transforms a common ingredient into a meditative object of study. The composition balances the heavy weight of the book with the precarious lean of the leafy stem. It is a study of silence and presence. The soft gradients of light reveal a subtle luminescence within the vegetable. This luminosity guides the eye across the curved surfaces to the sharp edges of the printed word.
