Description
This work explores memory as a fragile space, where the memory seems to gradually dissolve.
The female figure, represented from behind, refuses face-to-face and immediately establishes an emotional distance. Her body, partially erased by the pictorial matter, evokes an identity under construction or threatened by oblivion. The absent face thus becomes more evocative than a frontal portrait: what matters is what can no longer be seen.
The contrast between the delicate realism of the skin and the abstract gestures of the background translates the tension between precise memory and fragmented memory.
The vertical bands seem to evoke strata, traces, or fragments of a past that overlap. The network of blue lines introduces an almost mental dimension, like the tenuous threads still connecting the present to the memory.
The white that crosses the dress acts as a true disappearance of matter, causing the body to tilt towards absence while the palette of roses, blues, and grays creates an atmosphere that is at once soft, melancholic, and deeply enigmatic.
“Before oblivion" finally appears as a meditation on what memory tries to retain when certain presences begin to fade.
Presentation
Sylvie JULKOWSKI-EGARD draws her inspiration mainly from her environment, which is why she works in series on recurring subjects.
In the series "MY LITTLE GIRLS" the painter draws inspiration from situations that she observes in society or in her surroundings to deliver a personal interpretation (the break with "an ordinary earthquake", the rivalry in "The Chosen One", Good and Evil in "Alter Ego", "The Hold", etc.)
She works in collaboration with her daughter, who serves as a model to create scenes that will be the basis of her works. She sometimes uses a few symbols that will serve as reading keys.
She uses all kinds of tools, brushes, spalters to express herself and a nuanced color palette. In her genre scenes, she particularly develops the expression of the subject, the gaze, a reflection of the soul, while the environment is painted in a more energetic manner.
The series on "URBAN LANDSCAPES" allows the painter to approach a season that she loves for its shadows and vibrant colors: summer.
She draws her inspiration mainly from Paris, the City of Lights, where she spends part of the year. Recently, she has focused on human beings in the city, capturing fleeting moments ("Urban Vibrations," "Convergence," etc.), small everyday moments (café terraces), sometimes with unusual framing ("A Summer Break").
She uses bright colors and all kinds of tools according to her favorite technique to make the subject vibrate.
"REFLECTIONS ON THE PASSING OF TIME": The painter chose to depict transport vehicles in the manner of the Vanitas paintings of yesteryear, that is, by representing the wear and tear of time, rust, holes, and decay. Here too, she favors a particular framing, taking the object out of the limits of the painting to make it more imposing. Just like us, these vehicles are only passing by, the course of time being inevitable. She paints vehicles with rounded, sensual shapes and bright colors.
"THE PORTRAITS": Sylvie JULKOWSKI-EGARD depicts women not as a pretext for political, social, or philosophical discourse, but as an integral part of the creative process itself. They allow her to unleash her creativity, to push her creative process further, and to add a poetic dimension to her work. By marrying tradition and modernity, by juxtaposing realistic elements and abstract motifs, a fusion of the tangible and the intangible is created.
