Description
The artwork here, "Village Cookin", is a wonderful depiction of dinner being prepared over the fire at a camp in the woods, that is saturated with acute detail, and vibrant color throughout, making it one of the nicest paintings by Whorf we have ever made available. Also, measuring approximately 15" x 22" (archival matted to 14 ½" x 20") and 22" x 28" with the high-quality frame made specifically for this painting, the immaculate artwork is of impressive craftsmanship and size. Finally, it has remained in excellent condition since it was completed by Whorf, is signed in the lower right corner, and comes with a Gallery Letter of Authenticity.
John Whorf's art has been exhibited in major museums around the world, and can be found in some of the most prestigious public and private collections worldwide. JOHN WHORF (1903 - 1959): John Whorf was an American painter and watercolorist known for his energetic, atmospheric depictions of landscapes, city scenes, coastal subjects, and everyday life. Born in Winthrop, Massachusetts, in 1903, he became an accomplished artist at a young age and developed a distinctive watercolor technique characterized by bold brushwork, strong movement, and expressive use of color. Whorf traveled extensively, finding inspiration in New England, Europe, the Caribbean, and other regions, while maintaining close ties to the Boston art community. His subjects ranged from bustling urban streets and harbors to winter landscapes and international scenes. Works such as , , and demonstrate his versatility and command of watercolor and gouache. His work is held in prominent American museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
