Emerging (2026) explores becoming before the outcome is known.
Energy gathers, disperses and changes direction across a surface deliberately left partly open, reflecting a state in which something is still developing rather than already defined.
The work began with Oxana Morasch's experience of watching another person develop a character and inner world of their own. From this intimate starting point, the painting opens onto a broader question: how do we become ourselves while growing within relationships, love and the influence of everything around us?
Rather than presenting influence as a form of control, Emerging considers closeness as the possibility of giving another person enough space for what is already there to emerge. The work suggests that loving someone does not necessarily mean changing, directing or calming them. It can mean allowing them the freedom to become increasingly themselves.
Built through acrylic, texture paste, sand and crackle medium on raw canvas, the composition moves between intensity and openness. Strong blue passages carry energy and movement across the work, while softer earth, sand and mineral tones create quieter areas around them. The visible ground and uneven surface reinforce the sense that the painting itself remains in the process of becoming.
Morasch's background in audiovisual media, photography and visual storytelling also informs her sensitivity to movement, layering and visual rhythm.
Rather than imposing a fixed narrative, Emerging remains deliberately unresolved. It reflects on how relationships shape us without completely defining us, and on the possibility of becoming more fully ourselves within closeness, love and connection.
Created entirely by hand in the artist's Berlin studio, Emerging is a unique original painting mounted on a certified pinewood stretcher. It is signed on the reverse and accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity issued by Oxana Morasch.
Oxana Morasch is a Berlin-based contemporary artist whose practice explores identity, memory, emotional transformation, and the transitional states that reshape our understanding of ourselves and others. With an academic background in Audiovisual Media and professional experience spanning photography, moving image, production, and visual storytelling, Morasch brings a distinctly cinematic sensitivity to painting. Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, she develops her surfaces through successive processes of layering, concealment, disruption, and revelation. Lines change direction, forms emerge and disappear, while traces of earlier interventions remain visible beneath later layers, reflecting the way memory and identity continuously evolve. Her ongoing series, What Lives Within Us, All at Once, examines states of becoming—the uncertain territory between who we have been and who we are becoming. Motherhood and changing intergenerational relationships provide an intimate point of departure, opening onto broader questions of love, freedom, connection, childhood, loss, and transformation. Earth tones and ochres evoke origin and accumulated memory; blue introduces movement and transformation; recurring red traces suggest love and the persistence of emotional connection. Morasch deliberately avoids imposing a single interpretation, allowing personal experience to provide the emotional foundation while abstraction creates space for the viewer's own memories and associations. Her 2026 work Emerging, selected by the artist as particularly representative of her current direction, brings together these concerns through acrylic, texture paste, sand, and crackle techniques. Oxana Morasch lives and works in Berlin, Germany, and is represented internationally by Abstract Art Gallery, Riga.
