Description
A low horizon divides the composition into two distinct zones.
The sky occupies the majority of the space. Shades of pale blue intermingle with touches of white and gray.
As the line of the earth approaches, the tones darken. Ocher and Sienna streaks suggest the light of a twilight or dawn.
The material is worked generously. The brush reveals dense textures and superimpositions of pigments.
The bottom of the painting presents a dark, mineral ground. Glints of light pierce the brown surface, creating a contrast with the clarity of the top.
The chromatic balance rests on the opposition between the coldness of the sky and the warmth of the lands.
The pictorial approach favors the atmospheric sensation rather than descriptive detail.
This abstract landscape plays on depth and natural light. The composition ends with a band of earth in coppery tones.
Presentation
A contemporary painter born in 1962 in La Celle-Saint-Cloud, André Boubounelle paints landscapes in the classical manner, at a time when practices often put aside the pictorial and the figurative. Whether luminous or misty, his landscapes are never animated and exude a delicate poetry, a harmonious melancholy. This gives a rare emotional intensity to his paintings: as if in immersion, we walk through familiar landscapes of Burgundy, Ile de France, the sunny countryside under the snow, the Vexin, northern Brittany through Tuscany.
Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1983. Prize from the Casa de Velázquez, Institut de France, resident from 1991 to 1993. Prize of the Wildenstein Foundation in 1993,
The departmental domain of the Vallée-aux-Loup, La Maison de Chateaubriand in Chatenay-Malabry devoted an important exhibition to him in 2019, under the aegis of Marc Fumaroli (1932-2020), of the Académie Française.
Pont-l'Evêque, Espace Culturel Les Dominicaines, devoted an important exhibition to him "Le Voyage Immobile" from 19 March to 8 May 2022
