Description
A swimming scene is emerging in turquoise water, almost as bright as the sky. In the center, two figures seem to be very close to each other; their faces and bodies emerge in fragments, as if they were confused with reflections. The ochre and brown touches that sketch their hair and shoulders extend in the water, then disperse in shaky trails. The painting thus plays on a presence and its erasure: the bodies are there, but the water blurs them, splits them and absorbs them. The image keeps something intimate and suspended, between proximity to the figures and the dissolution of the world around them.
Presentation
Born in 1961 Jean Marie Drouet is graduated from the Fine Arts School of Angoulême. He likes drawing and making lot of photos before beginning a painting. He is inspired by contemporary photography and film culture that gives him an optimistic look on the world.
Referring to the American realistic painters such as N.C Wyeth or Edward Hopper, life’s scenes and characters are his favorite subjects. He is also fascinated by strong light contrasts and minimalistic settings. Sunlight is everywhere in Jean Marie Drouet paintings showing us the beautiful side of life.; his painting is quiet and bright aiming the beauty of the present time.
