Description
“The Birth of the Universe”
Acrylic, stretched canvas, 40/60
2023.
Here we have an amazing painting filled with the magic of creation and cosmic harmony. At its center are two young creatures, cats, a girl and a boy, symbolizing the beginning of a new cycle of existence — the image of Adam and Eve.
Particular attention is drawn to the apple, surrounded by shimmering, bright stars, like a miniature map of the universe. This apple serves as a symbol of the birth of life, embodying the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, the choice between darkness and light. The stars, meanwhile, form something greater than just an ornament: they remind us of the infinity of space and the mystery of the origin of our world.
The boy and girl, depicted as kittens, symbolize gentleness and childlike spontaneity, conveying a positive message about the joy of creativity and the purity of intentions. This allegory underscores humanity’s стремление to return to its roots, to preserve childlike sincerity and the capacity for creation, where good triumphs over evil and love is above all else.
The cosmos around the characters is full of colors and light, reflecting the ideas of universal love and hope for the future. The painting urges us to reflect on our role in the Universe, to recognize our responsibility to future generations, and to learn to live in a world where every action we take influences the development of the entire world.
Thus, the work becomes not just a depiction of two child‑astronauts creating new life, but a powerful metaphorical message to the viewer about the importance of mindfulness and the unity of people for the common good of our world and the entire Universe.
Presentation
Eva Pakhomova is a Russian contemporary artist working at the intersection of romantic surrealism and naïve painting. Her practice explores tenderness, emotional intimacy and the delicate relationship between the inner world of the individual and the surrounding reality.
From an early age, Pakhomova was immersed in creative practices including drawing, embroidery and collage. Her long-standing connection with religious art, churches and monasteries has also influenced her visual language. Elements reminiscent of icon painting — frontal compositions, symbolic figures and a contemplative atmosphere — are transformed into a personal contemporary mythology.
Tenderness is a central theme throughout her work. Through fragile angels, cats, flowers and other recurring motifs, Pakhomova creates poetic narratives about love, vulnerability, dreams and the need for care. Her deliberately naïve, almost childlike visual language allows her to approach complex psychological and philosophical subjects with warmth and sincerity. Behind the apparent simplicity of her characters and stories lies an exploration of emotional states, desires and the quiet inner experiences that shape human life.
Her works often resemble intimate fairy tales, parables or fragments of dreams. They invite the viewer to slow down and consider the importance of compassion — towards oneself, towards others and towards one's own dreams.
Pakhomova works primarily with acrylic on canvas and paper, using distinctive multilayered techniques that create depth and tactile richness within her compositions. Her artistic influences include Salvador Dalí, Frida Kahlo and Vincent van Gogh.
