Description
Araneosus from the Corpus collection by Louis Blanc.
This black and white artwork exudes a remarkable intensity. At the center of the composition, two powerfully expressive hands extend forward, fingers spread like claws about to capture their prey. These hands , vigorously detailed, reveal every tendon and vein, symbolizing strength and determination. The background is intentionally blurred and understated, further highlighting the hands and creating a striking contrast between the soft background and the sharpness details in the foreground. The use of black and white accentuates the shadows, adding a dramatic dimension to the work. A hard light illuminates the scene from above, casting deep shadows that amplify the palpable tension. This composition is not content not to capture attention by its pure aesthetics; it also challenges by its symbolism. The hands seem to emerge from a smooth surface, as if they were emerging from an underground world, mysterious and unknown, ready to reveal hidden secrets. This fascinating work encourages reflection on the duality of human power and fragility, a timeless theme illustrated with masterful simplicity. It invites the viewer to explore the boundary between control and chaos, a precarious balance captured brilliantly.
French photographer Louis Blanc was born in 1956 and has lived in Toulouse for over ten years. Blanc never received any formal education in photography and taught himself to master his technique. He publishes his work on photography forums and competes in competitions. From the 1980s to the 2000s, he experimented with different cameras, including a Minolta and a digital compact. After spending some time perfecting his craft and gaining extensive experience, he decided to switch to an SLR in 2010. With his new equipment, he was able to focus on his main interests and gave birth to his CORpuS project in 2011.
The idea for this series came to him after winning a contest on a forum. CORpuS was an enriching experience for Blanc, because he realized that the image of the body was something that evoked a lot of emotions and of deep reflections. As can be seen, the images of CORpuS have a neutral background, because the contorted body is more than enough to arouse conviction.
Blanc's artistic process begins with an undefined idea, much like a brainstorm, but the end result is the culmination of many plans and redirections, making it both intentional and unplanned. Furthermore, Blanc does not does not avoid placing the body in disturbing poses. In fact, most of the images in CORpuS push the limits of the human body. The images were made as self-portraits, using a self-timer and a remote control.
Louis Blanc has been emerging in the world of photography for about ten years, and his work is not without praise. In 2014, he joined the community of artists supported by Maecene Arts. The CORpuS series was made known throughout France, being published in many magazines including La Provence and Réponses Photo. Over the years, this series has been the subject of more than 40 international exhibitions, notably in France, Russia, New York, Japan, Italy and Prague. It has also been published in Monaco Culture magazine in Monaco and in the Tribune de Genève in Switzerland. Needless to say, the whole world should keep an eye out for Louis Blanc's next achievements.
Presentation
Self-taught, he learned taking photos and post-treatment techniques, nevertheless he didn't hesitate to submit his work to criticism... this was always constructive.
His interest in photo quickly turned into a passion and by a mere coincidence these interests somehow became a reality: first approach being: architecture (to put it broadly) religious and historic buildings, urban landscapes. Second approach: work on the body image and body language. The Corpus series presented here is part of his second approach.
After several exhibitions in various bars and restaurants of Toulouse, Louis Blanc won the "Body Language" competition, organized by the magazine Réponses Photo and the Festival Européen de la Photo de Nu d'Arle, the first prize of this contest was a great exhibition, held at the Palais de l'Archevêché d'Arles, where the artist exhibited twelve photographs, in a large format from the Corpus series (2012).
