Francis Ford Coppola, renowned American director, producer, and screenwriter, was born on April 7, 1939, in Detroit. Despite the challenges of polio in his youth, his filmmaking journey began at the age of 10 when he began making amateur films with his father's camera. After studying at UCLA Film School, Coppola launched his career with low-budget films. He co-wrote the screenplay for "Is Paris Burning?" and co-founded a production company with George Lucas in 1969. Although their first film suffered setbacks, Coppola achieved worldwide success with "The Godfather" in 1972.

His work on the trilogy and "The Conversation" earned him accolades, including six Academy Awards for the second "Godfather" film in 1974 and the Palme d'Or at Cannes for "The Conversation" that same year. Despite the challenges of filming "Apocalypse Now," the film, released in 1979, won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
