Description
This artwork centers on a large yellow ceramic pot resting quietly in an alcove at the Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Hydra. Bathed in strong Mediterranean light, the pot's textured surface catches soft shadows that shift across the stone floor throughout the day. A green plant rises from within, its freshness standing in gentle contrast to the sun warmed ceramic and the church's aged stone walls.
Framed by the archway, the scene brings together architecture, history, and nature in a moment of calm balance. Light and shadow trace the curves of the pot, turning a simple object into a quiet focal point where time, place, and color briefly meet.
Presentation
Born in Istanbul into a Turkish-German family, Nilgun Sezgin is currently based between Berlin and Istanbul. Her multicultural background has strengthened her curiosity for travel and her desire to experience different cultures from an early age.
In her academic life, after studying International Relations, she completed her master's degree in European studies at King's College London.
Photography, particularly travel and lifestyle, has long been her way of observing, exploring, and interpreting her surroundings.
Being observant by nature, Nilgun first picked up her professional camera at a young age, and since then she has been drawn to documenting the beauty in unnoticed, quiet details of everyday moments. Her work highlights the aesthetics of ordinary life, blending vibrant colors, beautifully crafted architecture, the authenticity of people and cities, and occasionally a charming dog element.
