Description
Under colorful appearances that can be deceptive, this series examines the condition of women constrained to face multiple obligations, subjected to such intense stress that it can sometimes lead to their disappearance. Touches of humor temper the darkness of the subject. "My photographs are metaphors for the inner lives of women; how we substitute everyday objects and artifice and transform them into obsessions."

« Mon travail porte sur l'enchevêtrement des femmes et de la maison, d'où l'expression "femme au foyer". Toutes les photographies sont des espaces intérieurs réimaginés de pièces remplies de décors et d'objets, mettant en scène une femme seule, engloutie dans son intérieur, dont on ne voit souvent que quelques bribes. Elle est à la fois victime de ses possessions et de ses obsessions, et la créatrice invisible de celles-ci ; à la fois satisfaisantes et problématiques, pathétiques et humoristiques. Sa maison est devenue un lieu de tragédie et de danger, avec des scènes de mésaventures hilarantes, déchirantes et d'horreur sur le rôle des femmes dans toutes les sociétés ».

Après une formation en Design Graphique (University of Illinois) et en Photographie (Illinois Institute of Technology), Patty Carroll développe un travail photographique singulier, tout en consacrant une part de sa carrière à l'enseignement, via conférences et séminaires effectués dans de prestigieuses institutions américaines et britanniques (Columbia College, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Royal College of Art, London Institute).
Connue pour son utilisation de couleurs intenses et très saturées, Patty Carroll travaille depuis 2013 sur son projet "Anonymous Women" (Femmes anonymes), lequel se divise en quatre séries, mises-en-scène et photographiées en studio. Il a pour thème central la relation complexe entre les femmes et les contraintes de la vie quotidienne. Son travail a remporté de nombreux prix (notamment le Grand prix de « Herstory » avec See Me (2019), le Grand prix de « Don't Take Pictures », la Bourse d'artiste de l’Illinois Arts Council (2020), le BBA PhotoPrize (2023).
Les œuvres de Patty Carroll ont été exposées dans de nombreuses institutions internationales (The Art Institute of Chicago, Contemporary Art Museum, Houston, Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Columbia, Kunstgerwerbemuseum, Zurich, Kunsthalle, Cologne, Spiva Center for the Arts), et font partie de collections publiques et fondations privées (The Art Institute of Chicago, MOMA, MOCP, MCA, The Sandor Photography Collection, The Kansas City Collection, The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, The Ruttenberg Foundation).
