This artwork captures a modern interpretation of Kalliope, the muse of epic poetry in Greek mythology.
Kalliope, often spelled Calliope in English, was the eldest of the nine Greek Muses in classical mythology. She presided over epic poetry, eloquence, and heroic song, earning her name from the Greek words for "beautiful-voiced." She held a distinguished position among the Muses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne. Ancient sources like Hesiod's describe her as the chief Muse, often depicted with a writing tablet, scroll, or lyre
The figure's form is both abstract and expressive, utilizing fluid brushstrokes that blend together hues of blue, gray, and muted tones to evoke an ethereal presence. The artist has positioned her in a seated posture, holding a lyre, which signifies her artistic prowess. Her face is turned upwards with an enigmatic smile, suggesting inspiration or divine insight. The wings, subtly rendered, hint at a celestial or mythological aspect, grounding her identity as a muse. The artist's signature style is evident in the exaggerated proportions and dreamlike quality, creating a sense of movement and emotion.

Presentation
Hanna Bakula was born in 1950, she is a Polish painter and writer. She studied Fine arts in Warsaw and graduated in 1974. She continued her thesis on the suburban culture, for which she was awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Art. During the 80's, she stayed in USA where she worked as stage and costume designer for "The Kitchen" theater in New York. She received a grant from the Guggenheim Museum. She continued her stage designing activity once she came back to Poland for the "Carmen" Opera at Teatr Wielki, Warsaw, and still lives there today.
Her work is a lot like illustration, she draws inspiration from theater and opera mainly Carmen. However, the artist likes to explore various topics depending on her brainwaves, in a unique universe.
