Description

Dynamic energy defines this visceral oil painting. Bold strokes of red ignite the composition. They clash with pale yellows and cool blue accents. The artist employs a dense application of pigment. Thick layers create a sense of physical weight. Rhythmic lines surge upward. They suggest a fragmented architecture or a spiritual ascent. This piece originates from a deep engagement with mythological themes. It transforms memory into a complex visual metaphor. Abstraction here acts as a bridge. It connects ancient narratives with contemporary perception. The narrative unfolds through a chaotic yet balanced arrangement of forms. Red dominates the backdrop like a dormant volcano. Lighter tones carve out a central path. This path leads the eye through a labyrinth of symbolic markers. The interplay of light and shadow adds depth to the textured surface. Every gesture feels intentional and urgent. The result is a powerful exploration of human experience. The artwork captures a moment of intense emotional transition. Sharp edges meet blurred boundaries. This contrast enhances the feeling of a distant, fading recollection. The composition closes with precise, jagged details in the lower foreground.

Gia Khutsishvili, Dried Beech
Georgia  • 1966

Presentation

Gia Khutsishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 18, 1966, into a family of artists. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. Since 1990, Khutsishvili has been engaged in academic and pedagogical activities at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, where he has taught and contributed to the institution's educational programs. He has also taught painting and delivered lectures at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Over the course of more than three decades, Khutsishvili has developed a sustained artistic practice alongside his academic, research, and cultural activities. He has participated in and contributed to numerous exhibition projects and cultural events and has been involved in the preparation of publications, books, and art albums. His professional activities also include research and translation. Khutsishvili occupies a distinctive position within the generation of Georgian artists that emerged in the 1990s. His practice is characterized by a sustained engagement with abstraction, symbolism, and metaphor, with mythological themes and imagery constituting an important component of his artistic vocabulary. Through these elements, his work explores questions of perception, interpretation, and the relationship between figurative references and abstract forms. Metaphor plays a fundamental role in Khutsishvili's artistic approach, functioning as a structural principle through which images, symbols, and meanings are brought into dialogue. His works reflect a consistent interest in developing an individual visual language grounded in abstraction while remaining connected to cultural, historical, and mythological references. Khutsishvili's works are held in museum collections and private collections in Georgia and internationally.
