Description
Villa del Arte Galleries present Ger Doornink's limited editions of 50. Ger Doornink's limited editions are based on a high resolution scan of the original artwork. They are printed on archival Hahnemühle German Etching paper. This technique allows us to capture the original's textures, colours and depth, so that you can enjoy them in their totality. In order to gain awareness of something that is concealed yet right in front of your eyes, or hidden in plain sight, you must distance yourself. The Dutch multidisciplinary artist, Ger Doornink, specialises in painting, illustration and photography. Time spent living in Tokyo, Milan and currently Amsterdam, has heavily influenced his aesthetic. Strong lines and bright colours depict portraits of women. Doornink’s eye for design and close links to the world of fashion is evident, along with his fascination with the Italian and Dutch masters. Throughout his long and varied international career in design, photography, fashion and the arts, knowledge of diverse techniques has been garnered, coming together on his canvases to portray beauty itself.
Presentation
Ger Doornink, born in 1949 in Aalten, the Netherlands, is a multidisciplinary, contemporary artist known for his evocative female portraits that merge painting, illustration, and photography. He studied Advertising at the Arnhem Art Academy and began his career as a graphic designer and fashion photographer, often under the pseudonym “Gerry the Cat.”
His time in Tokyo deeply influenced his aesthetic, followed by years in Milan, and later a return to the Netherlands where he explored the legacy of Dutch masters, particularly Rembrandt.
Now based in Amsterdam, Doornink creates female portraits that fuse emotional depth with visual impact. He works primarily with oil, acrylic, and mixed media on canvas, and also produces limited edition prints on Hahnemühle paper. His bold use of color, graphic composition, and fashion-inspired sensibility reflect his international experience.
Represented by leading galleries in Amsterdam and Barcelona, he has presented solo exhibitions such as “The Look” and “Thoughts” (2024), and joined collective shows like “Changes” (2022).
