Catherine Cazau

The key words of Catherine Cazau are the material and the color. These paintings are poetic, as they tend to explore human consciousness. We must not look for meaning, or figurative subjects, if not that of spirituality. Moreover, Catherine Cazau, speaking of her specific painting: “informal spots, engraved lines, nervous gestures, (almost) illegible inscriptions. My painting is an emotional space, of energy, keeping a part of secret like an enigmatic poem which questions our perception of reality, the chaos of the world ”. The poems or the writing in general accompany and are intimately linked to the work of the artist. Catherine Cazau works on her paintings, as writers work on their texts, retouching the material to modify its meaning. However, Catherine Cazau's work is nonetheless very technical. According to Jean-Paul Gavart Perret “The work becomes an original optical phenomenon. It often appears without being able to isolate or identify its body, its substance, its texture. It reveals a reality prior to consciousness. The artist works on the material there, using the technique of engravings on paper.
