URIHI, translating to "forest-land" in Yanomami, symbolizes a living entity threatened by exploitation. Indigenous peoples face violence and extractivism while fighting to protect ancestral lands. PIXOTE's portrait of Urihi embodies this essence, transcending violence with luminous tranquility. Vibrant colors and deep meditation connect viewers to nature's wisdom. While hints of red evoke violence, bright hues infuse life into the composition. The artwork invites viewers to join this connection and find inspiration in Urihi's peaceful presence. We hope it serves as a reminder of the urgent need to protect indigenous lands and the wisdom they hold. Let Urihi inspire you to embrace harmony with nature in your daily life.
Presentation
Pixote, a Brazilian-born artist based in New York City, draws inspiration from Brazilian pixação, a style characterized by bold, angular lettering often seen on urban surfaces. Moving to the States in the mid-90s, he absorbed influences from the Lower East Side music, skateboarding, and global graffiti scene. His art blends Brazilian culture with NYC style, focusing on spreading positivity, awareness, and love. Pixote's aesthetic furthered by incorporating earthy tones and primary colors, contrasted with black and white compositions. His style showcases intricate linework, bold color choices, and a balance between chaos and structure. Through his art, Pixote addresses themes of indigenous rights, land demarcation, and cultural identity, creating visually compelling works that resonate with viewers worldwide.
