Description
Far from the feminine bodies that characterize his work, Bonnefoit ventures here into more meditative territory, reconnecting with a centuries-old pictorial tradition. In the history of art, still life has often served as a formal laboratory, allowing artists to explore composition, light, and material using modest but universal subjects.
The edition presented here is distinguished by its use of tissue paper, which requires great technical mastery from both the artist and the printer. Its extreme fineness allows for no approximation in the application of inks, and requires perfectly measured pressure and inking. This material gives the image a unique, almost diaphanous translucency and softness, which amplifies the delicacy of the textures and nuances.
A rare piece by Bonnefoit, both in its subject and its medium, this lithograph, hand-signed and numbered 4/80, illustrates a unique encounter between tradition and innovation. It constitutes a precious testimony to Bonnefoit's ability to go beyond his favorite themes to explore, with the same aesthetic rigor, the theme of still life.
