Description
This artwork depicts an anthropomorphic monkey with greenish fur, dressed in a structured suit and wearing a red cap. The figure has a visible physical alteration at the neck, held together by apparent sutures, suggesting an artificial construction or repair. Its expression remains detached, almost absent, despite the implicit violence of this transformation. In the background, repurposed "Banana Republic" banknotes display slogans such as "Monkey Money," "Keep it real," and "Republic of Apes," accompanied by crossed-out pictograms and standardized faces. This repetition of signs produces a closed, self-referential visual language, where the discourse loops endlessly. The artwork articulates a tension between reconstructed identity and collective injunctions, in a world where authenticity itself becomes a standardized product. A staging of self-construction under symbolic constraint.
