Original silkscreen print - Limited edition

Xav Art Emotion Gallery is proud to present Peace Justice, an original silkscreen print by Shepard Fairey, known worldwide as OBEY. A leading figure in contemporary street art, the artist continues his artistic commitment to the universal values of peace, justice, and humanism.

Printed in a limited edition, now Sold Out, this work is made using screen printing on thick cream Speckletone paper, an iconic medium used by Shepard Fairey for his collector's editions.

With its monumental composition and palette of deep blues enhanced with ivory, it perfectly illustrates the artist's instantly recognizable graphic language. A true visual manifesto, this work occupies an important place in OBEY's contemporary output.

Some works decorate a wall. Others tell a story.

With Peace Justice, Shepard Fairey takes the codes of propaganda posters and gives them a completely different meaning: that of hope.

At the center of the composition, a winged figure rises above a lotus flower, a universal symbol of rebirth and wisdom. The wings, spread wide, seem to protect humanity, while the words PEACE and JUSTICE become a graphic manifesto rather than a mere slogan.

For over thirty years, Shepard Fairey has been building a body of work where art engages with major societal issues: freedom, human rights, the environment, and democracy. This silkscreen print is fully in line with this approach.

Every detail, every ornament, every color contrast contributes to a perfectly balanced composition where graphic power and humanist message are one.

Owning this work means acquiring an iconic piece by an artist who has profoundly marked the history of contemporary urban art.

incorporates the entire visual vocabulary that has made Shepard Fairey internationally famous.

The pyramidal composition evokes 20th-century political posters while subverting their codes to spread a universal message of peace and fairness.

The central figure, inspired by classical representations of Victory and allegories of Justice, symbolizes a humanity turned towards a more just future.

The lotus represents spiritual elevation while the stylized face at the base of the work is reminiscent of the famous OBEY icons developed by the artist since the late 1980s.

The palette dominated by blues brings an unusual serenity to Fairey's world, where reds are often predominant. Here, blue becomes the color of balance, dialogue, and peace.

Screen printing offers exceptional depth to flat areas and highlights the rich textures characteristic of the artist's original editions.

Shepard Fairey is one of the most influential urban artists of his generation.

Born in 1970 in the United States, he became famous in the late 1980s thanks to his André the Giant Has a Posse campaign, which later evolved into the OBEY movement.

His graphic language, inspired by Russian constructivism, Pop Art and propaganda posters, questions notions of power, consumption, freedom of expression and social justice.

In 2008, Shepard Fairey gained worldwide recognition by creating the "HOPE" poster for Barack Obama, which became one of the most famous political images of the 21st century.

Today, his works are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Smithsonian Institution and numerous international private collections.

His original screen prints, published in limited quantities and quickly sold out, are particularly sought after by collectors of contemporary art and street art.

Shepard Fairey (Obey), Peace Justice

Presentation

Shepard Fairey, aka Obey, is an American street artist and graphic designer born in 1970 in Charleston, United States. Passionate about graphic design since the age of 14, he began by creating designs for t-shirts and skateboards. Influenced by Andy Warhol and Alexander Rodchenko, he quickly turned to artistic studies.

In June 2025, Shepard Fairey unveiled a monumental mural on the façade of the Hôtel de Ville in Paris as part of the exhibition “From Paris to Belém: 10 Years of Global Action for the Climate," commemorating the Paris Agreement. Featuring his trademark red, blue, and cream tones with powerful slogans like “Respect Earth" and “Resist Unite," the work reinforces his commitment to environmental and political causes. This high-visibility project, combining activism and large-scale public art, further cements his appeal among collectors, institutions, and art lovers seeking pieces with both visual strength and civic impact.

In the late 1980s, with friends from the Rhode Island School of Design, he launched a viral sticker and poster campaign using the image of wrestler André the Giant. Stuck clandestinely in major American cities, these works marked the history of contemporary street art and demonstrated the power of this new form of artistic expression.

Shepard Fairey rose to worldwide fame in 2008 with his iconic HOPE poster, created for Barack Obama, which became a symbol of the presidential campaign. In 2024, he renewed his political commitment by creating the "Forward" poster, in support of Kamala Harris. Inspired by HOPE, this work was used as murals in several key states to encourage voter mobilization. In 2021, Shepard Fairey reimagined Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic, blending street art and political commentary in a powerful tribute to liberty.

Despite legal controversies over intellectual property, Shepard Fairey continues to exhibit his works in the greatest contemporary art museums. In 2022, he created a monumental fresco in Munich, in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture, to promote renewable energy.

Still active, Shepard Fairey proves that street art is a powerful tool for social and political change, combining art, activism and engagement.
