Description
A graphic composition where memory comes alive. The artist draws from anonymous photographic archives to recreate forgotten moments of life.
The ink line defines a row of swimmers with precision. Their silhouettes, leaning forward, evoke a suspended wait.
The contrast is marked by the addition of minimalist color blocks. A pale pink circle dominates the scene like a summer sun.
A light blue band underlines the horizon line and anchors the figures in an aquatic space.
The work plays on memory and nostalgia. The layering of screen printing transforms the period image into a contemporary vision.
This limited edition captures the simplicity of a shared moment by the water.
The whole relies on a rigorous balance between the black and white of the drawing and the softness of the pastel tones.
Presentation
Valérie Betoulaud, graduated in visual communication of applied arts, began her career as artistic director in communication, then worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for the press, design agencies as well as style offices in decoration. In recent years, she has been showing her work in contemporary art fairs and several galleries.
"From forgotten photos, witnesses of anonymous lives, I let myself be guided by these fragments of memory, moments of happiness shared by the water, under the summer sun, and try to find reflections of life there. . I redraw in Indian ink, the shadow and the light and add color to these black and white images, blurry, erased by time. Stories are told, families come together, thus these portraits are born. "
