Description
A summer scene is set against a sunny yellow background. Four black silhouettes stroll lightly. They are wearing nets and beach accessories. The movement is fluid. The composition plays on a sharp contrast between the Chinese shadows and the clarity of the setting.
The artist leans on fragments of memories. She transforms old photographs into graphic compositions. India ink redraws the contours of an anonymous life. The pink sky brings a dreamlike softness to the whole.
The work relies on the balance between precise drawing and flat areas of bright colors. This 2024 screenprint captures a moment of simple happiness. The light seems to radiate from the center of the composition. The gaze follows the walk of the characters towards a minimalist horizon. The visual rendering evokes the nostalgia of past holidays. The image ends with the subtle reflection of the silhouettes on the ground.
Presentation
Valérie Betoulaud, graduated in visual communication of applied arts, began her career as artistic director in communication, then worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for the press, design agencies as well as style offices in decoration. In recent years, she has been showing her work in contemporary art fairs and several galleries.
"From forgotten photos, witnesses of anonymous lives, I let myself be guided by these fragments of memory, moments of happiness shared by the water, under the summer sun, and try to find reflections of life there. . I redraw in Indian ink, the shadow and the light and add color to these black and white images, blurry, erased by time. Stories are told, families come together, thus these portraits are born. "
