Description
A luminous composition captures a moment of summer complicity. Five women hold hands, ready to immerse themselves in the water. Their silhouettes, drawn in ink, emerge from a clean white background. A solid yellow sun dominates the upper part, evoking the heat of a summer afternoon.
The artistic approach transforms fragments of anonymous memory into contemporary images. The precise line redraws the shadows and lights of forgotten old photographs. This work dialogues with the codes of Pop Art while celebrating the simplicity of everyday life.
The contrast between the graphic black and the vivid color creates a striking visual balance. The movement of the bodies suggests a light and spontaneous joy. This screenprint, made in 2024, plays on the nostalgia of holidays and the strength of female bonds. The whole relies on a minimalist composition where the void accentuates the presence of the characters. The final rendering emphasizes the finesse of the line and the intensity of the yellow pigment.
Presentation
Valérie Betoulaud, graduated in visual communication of applied arts, began her career as artistic director in communication, then worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for the press, design agencies as well as style offices in decoration. In recent years, she has been showing her work in contemporary art fairs and several galleries.
"From forgotten photos, witnesses of anonymous lives, I let myself be guided by these fragments of memory, moments of happiness shared by the water, under the summer sun, and try to find reflections of life there. . I redraw in Indian ink, the shadow and the light and add color to these black and white images, blurry, erased by time. Stories are told, families come together, thus these portraits are born. "
