Description
Bacchus's angel is an engraving made on Arches paper at the DPJ workshops in Sète. This two-color woodcut was edited from two pear wood dies, finished printing in December 2019 on a Fag swiss proof press. Masked angels fall from the sky to melt to the fullest on bunches of grapes under the amused eye of their friends. The blues of the grains are strong, and the hatched design of a deep black gives a nice depth to this work. A true free spirit, André Cervera draws his inspiration from his many travels. His characters evolve in spaces with improbable perspectives that belong only to him. The artist delivers to us through his work a sharp critique of our societies which he brings with gentleness and tenderness for the human race. André Cervera has benefited from beautiful public exhibitions, at the Paul Valéry Museum in Sète, at the Bagouet space in Montpellier and is part of beautiful French collections.
Presentation
André Cervera, born in 1962, lives and works in Sète (Hérault-France) and travels during extensive time periods. Close to the École de Sète movement, he does not consider himself to be part of the Free Figuration. "It is true that I was friends with Robert Combas and Hervé Di Rosa, he says. I was inspired by these artists, but I am a free spirit...".
Some critics see a new style that has been called "Latin expressionism" in his works... André Cervera's paintings are thoughts in motion, instinctive and under pressure, like the artist's personality. His painting is both nervous and sophisticated. Always questioning itself. When he paints, the artist expresses his own relationship to the world.
