Christophe Hohler   New & remarkable Artists

Christophe Hohler lives and works in France, but it is in Switzerland that he was born in 1961 in the municipality of Basel. He has dual French and Swiss nationality. He began his apprenticeship as an offset printer in the evening course at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel, then went to the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg. The first reading of a painting by Christophe Hohler immediately reveals his preoccupation; the representation of the body. "Christophe Hohler's painting today testifies to his personal development, it is now located in the frontality of the painting and in a shortcut. Shortcut of painting, he leaves anatomical reality aside, evoking nudity more than it does. the watch. He suggests the attitudes represented: waiting, meditation, observation, walking, reading ... he thus recedes the figure in favor of the mere pictorial fact. His purpose is now to present a concise painting, one where colors and materials almost lead to the erasure of the subject. "
